Varanasi
(formerly known as Banaras) is one of the most important religious
cities in India. When you walk the crowded streets of the old city near the
Ganges river, you will see holy men, holy cows, and holy temples all over
the place. The spiritual atmosphere that results from this holyness makes
Varanasi a very interesting destination, one should not miss. Remember that
a lot of Hindus come to to Varanasi to gasp their lives away and want to
have their ashes dispersed in the Ganges. Every day and every hour, there
are cremations along the Ganges at the Ghats. Act respectful.
It is one of the most visited religious spot by foreign nationals who
come to India in search of Nirvana.
Varanasi is easily visited on the way from
Delhi to Nepal and
offers a good starting point for visiting Khajuraho. Allow at least two
days for the city. |
