 Chandigarh
has the unique distinction of being the capital of two states: Hariyana and
Punjab. It is also a territory of its own right. The main attraction of
this town (pop. 423 000) is its impressive modern architecture. The city
was designed by the great French architect Le Corbusier who was
commissioned for the job by the Indian government. The High Court Building
is a standout. Chandigarh requires one night (it’s usually seen as a
halfway stop between Delhi and Srinagar). 150 mi/240 km north of New
Delhi.
